Student Paper Competition
The American Mosquito Control Association will award a cash prize to up to three undergraduate or graduate students or those who have graduated within 12 months of the submission deadline date who present their papers at 84th Annual Meeting. Prize details, eligibility criteria, judging procedures and deadlines are posted on the Abstract page of the AMCA Annual Meeting website. Abstract submissions for the Student Paper Competition are limited to 75 words.

Poster Competition
Presenting a poster at the AMCA Annual Meeting is a great way to give your colleagues an opportunity to interact with your research while away from the labs and field sites during the Annual Meeting. The American Mosquito Control Association will present awards to 3 posters. The winners will be awarded with first, second, third place prizes. A $250 cash prize will be awarded to the first place poster. Poster presenters can opt out of participating in the Poster Competition. Individuals participating in another competition category (Student Competition, Latin American Student Competition) are ineligible to participate. Prize details, eligibility criteria, judging procedures and deadlines are posted on the Abstract page of the AMCA Annual Meeting website.

Latin American Student Competition and Posters
AMCA will hold a Latin American Student Competition during the 2018 Annual Meeting. AMCA will award up to three undergraduate or graduate students or those who have graduated within 12 months of the submission deadline date who present their papers at the Latin American Student Competition during the 84th Annual Meeting. Latin American poster abstracts are also being accepted. Abstract submissions for the Latin American Student Competition are limited to 75 words.
Abstract Guidelines
The recommended abstract length is between 150 and 300 words, except for the Student Paper Competition and Latin American Student Competition, which are 75 words. Abstract titles should be brief, clearly indicating the nature of your presentation. When entering your title online, use mixed case (do not use all caps) and do not put a period at the end of the title. Please do not send supplemental materials (photos, articles or reports) with your abstract. These will not be seen by the program review committee.
The primary abstract contact will receive an email message confirming the receipt of the abstract. Please notify your authors/co-authors that the confirmation was received. All papers submitted will be reviewed by the AMCA Program Chair at the close of the paper submission period. Acceptance notifications will be sent in October.
Submitting an Abstract
1. Click Here to Begin- You will be taken the AMCA Call for Papers website
2. Click on the Register tab to register an account.
3. Enter your email address, password and confirm password. Click the Sign up button.
a. An email will be sent to you.
4. Click on the turquoise button in your email labeled, “Confirm Account.”
5. A pop-up will appear stating, “Thank you for confirming your email.”
6. Click on the “Please click here to login.”
7. Login to your account.
8. Once logged in, a turquoise box will pop up at the top of your screen indicating you have created a submission. You will be in edit mode of that submission.
9. Read the Information tab and continue the process using the system prompts.
10. Click “Save,” on the bottom right of your screen after you complete each tab or any time as necessary. *If required fields are missing data, you will see the tabs with a red triangle.
11. Click on the “Submit” button on the bottom right of your screen when you are ready to submit your abstract.
Authors and Affiliations
List the authors and affiliations according to the instructions given online. Author and affiliation information should also be included in the abstract as formatted in the template. If authors’ names and affiliations appear on more than one abstract, the names and affiliations must be entered identically on each abstract to ensure proper, non-repetitive indexing in publication. Otherwise, the author’s name and affiliation will appear multiple times as AMCA cannot assume that the multiple listings refer to the same author or affiliation. Please consult with your co-authors on how they would like their names and affiliations to appear prior to the submission of the abstract.
If the primary author, primary contact, or presenter are the same, this information must be noted in those categories. Only the presenter, primary author and co-authors will be noted within the abstract and program documents. Primary contacts will NOT be referenced on the final documents.
Acknowledgement of Receipts of Abstracts
Once your abstract has been completed, you will receive an email acknowledgment to the primary contact from the online submission system.
Online Revisions
You may revise your abstract until 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time on September 20, 2017 by returning to the site and logging in again. If you revise your abstract, you must take action to re-submit. If you fail to re-submit your abstract the system will mark it as "In Progress," indicating is has not been Submitted.
Abstract Withdrawals
If the abstract must be withdrawn, the AMCA office must be notified in writing via email at meetings@mosquito.org.
Please note: You will need to create a new account for your 2018 Call for Papers submission. This account is NOT associated with your AMCA membership account.
Judging Procedures and Deadlines
- All abstracts must be received by the extention date Wednesday, September 20, 2017.
- All submittals are reviewed, approved or declined by the Annual Meeting Program Chair.
- Announcements of selected papers will be made on or near October 23, 2017.
- Complete instructions for speaker and poster presentations will be provided upon notification of acceptance.
Registration Requirements
Accepted authors are expected to register and present their abstract at the 84th Annual Meeting. Accepted authors are expected to pay their own travel expenses and meeting registration fee(s).

The deadline to submit a proposal for the 2018 Symposia is now closed. The Symposia deadline was June 16.
